4. General procedure for bromination of aryl hydrazine hydrocholoride
General procedure: A 30-mL of round-bottomed flask was placed in ice. Arylhydrazine (0.5 mmol), CPME (or CH2Cl2) 0.2 mL was added. Then 2.4 equiv. of boron bromide (BBr3) was added gently. DMSO 0.2 mL was added in dropwise through a syringe. The mixture was then placed in hot plate (80oC), stirred in 1 hour under air. The yield of product was determined by 1H NMR (1,3,5 trioxane, CDCl3). The crude product was purified by liquid extraction with CH2Cl2 wash by sat. NaHCO3, dried over Na2SO4, column chromatography (Hexane 100% or Hexane: EtOAc =20:1).
